Here we provide short summaries of surf breaks being studied. Each of these surf breaks is either nationally or regionally signifcant, by either its inclusion in the Schedule 1 of the NZCPS 2010, or its universally regard as being of very high importance to surfing in New Zealand. The study sites were chosen objectively through a decision making matrix that considered access, infrastructure, sensitivity, threats, usage, dependent population, and effectiveness of the proposed study methods.
